  Wedding Night Ritual

The night of the wedding, the bridal room will lit dragon and phoenix candle to drive away the evil spirit, and the newlyweds will drink wine from two cups tied together with a red string, arms crossed from each other. This is the formal wedding vow in Chinese culture. Then the bride will be presented with half-raw dumplings, and be asked if the dumpling is raw. The bride is supposed to answer "raw", meaning giving birth to children, an indication of family prosperity.

In the old time, a pair of candles is used on wedding night in the bridal chamber, intended to drive away evil spirit with the flame and lively colour. It casts a soft and romantic ambiance at the wedding night.

Post-wedding Rituals & Customs

The day after the wedding, the bride should get up early and fix a brunch for the groom"s family. This is to show that she is well-nurtured, and qualified to be the groom"s wife.

Three days after the wedding, the bride will go to visit her parents in her husband"s company. The groom will present her family with a roast suckling pig, a symbol of virginity, to indicate the bride"s purity. The bride"s family will proudly share the pig with relatives and neighbours.
